Non Salons?
Four times per year, StartHereSF, presents a non-salon. We
call them non-salons because, unlike in 17th century France where
inspired hostesses gathered the "précieuses" together
for an evening of intellectual exploration, our goal is fun. Each
non-salon pairs one visual artist with an artist from other creative
field, ranging from poetry to mathematics. The resulting fusion
yields a unique and dynamic experience.
4 Non Salons is also blatantly commercial. Artists need
to sell their work. And openings and special events are the
best vehicles for that. The upside for you, the buyer, is
that you get to meet and talk with the artist, catch a bit of poetry
or music, entertain new ideas, explore other cultures, and mingle
with other art lovers.
Icing on the cake
And there’s more. Those of you who buy a work of art at a
non-salon will be invited by StartHereSF to meet with experts in
the arts who will chat with you about: 1) how to look at art, 2)
how to collect art, and 3) how to frame and hang your art once
you buy it. We believe that the art experience, from start
to finish, should be anxiety-free and richly rewarding.
